STQC CAMERAS
Information about STQC cameras

India's strict new cybersecurity mandates mean that any internet-connected camera sold in the country must have STQC Certification. If you are buying, upgrading, or installing security systems, understanding this compliance—and the major market shift it has caused—is critical for protecting your property and privacy.
The End of Unsecured Surveillance
In response to rising cyber threats, the Indian government heavily updated its Essential Requirements (ER) for digital devices. The mandate strictly requires that network-connected (IP) security cameras come secured out-of-the-box against the most common vulnerabilities.
Before you purchase any network camera, it must be officially vetted and approved by India's STQC (Standardisation Testing and Quality Certification) directorate.
The Core Requirements: What Makes a Camera "STQC Compliant"?
To pass the rigorous testing process, a camera must successfully mitigate the most common cyber-attack vectors:
No Default Passwords: The camera must prompt you to create a unique password during the initial setup.
Encrypted Data Streams: All video transmissions and data packets must be securely encrypted.
Signed Firmware: Updates must be cryptographically signed, preventing hackers from installing malicious software.
Closed Debug Ports: Physical or software debug ports must be disabled by default.
Major Market Shifts: Brands and Availability
Because of these tightened regulations, international brands lacking localized, secure hardware architectures—such as Hikvision, Dahua, and TP-Link—are now legally banned from being sold in India.
Consumers and businesses are now pivoting to compliant, trusted domestic and international names. The approved vendor list is rapidly expanding, with approved units and specific models available from manufacturers such as CP Plus, Prama, Matrix, Sparsh, and Honeywell.
How to Verify Before You Buy
You should never take a retailer's word for it; always verify the certification yourself.
Ask the vendor or installer for the exact model number and the certificate ID.
Ensure that the device certificate has not expired.
Consult the STQC Certified CCTV Camera List and guides to cross-reference.
Why Compliance Matters for You
While non-compliant legacy systems won't be forcibly seized, they pose a significant security risk and will become increasingly difficult to maintain. By transitioning to compliant STQC cameras, you are not just following the law—you are actively shielding your network from malware, preventing unauthorized access, and securing your personal privacy.
